The Darkness..

It’s 10:30 at night and as I lay here in the darkness of my room it’s amazing how peaceful it is . My house is quiet but yet it’s not .I can hear my husband next to me softly sleeping , And then the sound of my son and his friends quietly talking and laughing down the hall. Occasionally hearing the door to the refrigerator opening and closing. ..Boys always hungry. Off in the distance I can hear a train on the tracks rumbling along through the night ,surprisingly over the sound of the fan my husband cannot sleep without and now I have now grown accustomed too, off and on I hear the furnace turn on and occasionally the sound of Miss Abigail jumping around downstairs hopefully not keeping my daughter awake . Playing with something she found. Soon we will hear the coyotes has they make their way through our woods at night and the cry of an owl going after it’s prey . The night some times so quiet and peaceful yet active and alive. As I drift off to sleep I am content . And feel blessed of this simple life my husband and I have made.

    1. Thank you . I was laying here playing a game on my phone when I thought of how quiet it was but wasn’t . It’s kinda eerie when you hear the train especially when it’s while blows at nigh lol . The sound of the coyotes are creepy but not do you feel that way ! Now the owl is eerie too lol

  1. That is absolutely beautiful and so much like my own night here in the woods of Arkansas. I have a creek that I can hear since it’s been raining so it’s running very full and hard and I also have trains I can hear. No coyotes but occasionally a fox!!! And something that my friends and I all agree sounds like a monkey but we know it’s not a monkey. Soon the frogs will be peeping and then those horrible, horrible cicadas and katydids. Instead of a softly sleeping husband, however, I have my 91-yo mother who I swear sounds like those growling Walkers on The Walking Dead. Sorry Mom…I love you to the moon and back, but you do. But yah, that was a very poetic post you wrote. 🙂

  3. Personally, I think it’s funny when someone hears coyotes for the first time. I’ve heard them around here since I was a kid. But I always thought they were foxes. I had no clue because we always thought coyotes were out west…

Owls, I love the weird kooky sounds they make. Just makes me feel at home.. I love owls right next to the whippoorwill.

      1. I am doing my usual random blog reading. Congrats!! It’s yours tonight!

The scariest sounds I’ve ever heard in the woods are deer blowing (because I walk up on them) and bobcat.

Unfortunately, I’m not outside enough lately to hear anything… coyotes are almost always year round screaming and hollering here.

      2. That’s awesome because I’ve always heard bobcats but have never seen them..

I wish I could have got a doe on video one time.. she was mad as fire and was making a very mean grunt!

      3. Which reminds me of a time I took my cousin camping not far from here. It got bitter cold that night and the coyotes were out and screamed and hollered almost all night.

Stupid me, I decided to camp in a hammock.. I wrapped up in a wool blanket and zipped up in my sleeping bag. My head and feet were cold but everywhere else was warm. I remember waking up and looking at a cold moon over a pond and the coyotes were going crazy..
